BOXXER Sign James Dean Fury And Extend Hassan Azim Ahead Of Leeds Card
BOXXER have signed James Dean Fury to a long-term promotional deal, with the 20-year-old super middleweight scheduled to make his professional debut on August 8 at the First Direct Bank Arena in Leeds, live on DAZN worldwide. The promotional company have also extended unbeaten super welterweight Hassan Azim on a new long-term agreement ahead of his return on the same card.
The announcements add two fighters with recognisable boxing family connections to BOXXER’s plans. Fury becomes the latest member of the Fury family to enter the professional ranks, while Azim, the older brother of super lightweight contender Adam Azim, is set for his 10th professional contest.
Fury turns over after a decorated amateur career that included three national amateur titles and a Box Cup win. He is trained by his uncle Peter Fury, who helped guide Tyson Fury to his 2015 victory over Wladimir Klitschko and has also worked with Savannah Marshall during her career.
“I’m very grateful for this opportunity. I’d like to thank my uncle Peter, BOXXER, Ben Shalom and Mick Hennessy for making this possible,” James Dean Fury said. “My goal is to go all the way. I want to win world titles and become the best fighter I can be. I train hard, I’m dedicated and I’m prepared to do whatever it takes to reach the top. I’m excited to start this journey in Leeds on August 8 and put on a good performance for the fans. The super middleweight division is full of great fighters, but I believe the best version of me is going to wipe everyone out.”
The family name ensures immediate attention, with Tyson, Tommy, Roman and Hughie Fury all active professionals, but the Leeds debut will begin the process of establishing where James Dean Fury fits as a professional. BOXXER founder and CEO Ben Shalom said: “James Dean Fury is an exceptional young talent with all the attributes needed to go a long way in this sport. Boxing is in his blood. He comes from one of Britain’s most famous fighting families and has one of the sport’s best trainers in Peter Fury guiding his development.”
Azim, meanwhile, has renewed his promotional deal after moving to 9-0 as a professional. The 2018 Youth Olympic Games bronze medallist returned in January following almost a year out of the ring, reportedly because of illness and injury, and stopped Sean Murray at London’s Copper Box Arena.
His next assignment is an eight-round contest against former Southern Area champion Jack Martin, described by BOXXER as the most experienced opponent of Azim’s professional career. The bout forms part of the Leeds bill topped by the rematch between Troy Williamson and Callum Simpson.
“I’m really pleased to be extending my deal with BOXXER,” Azim said. “They’ve believed in me from the start, given me the platform to develop and I feel like we’re only just getting started. I’m improving every time I step into the ring and I know there’s a lot more to come. Right now, my full focus is on August 8. It’s another chance to show what I’m about and take another step forward towards where I belong.”
BOXXER’s immediate focus now shifts to final preparations for the August 8 card, where Fury will make his first professional appearance and Azim will try to build momentum against Martin after securing his promotional future.
