Tyson Fury’s promoter Frank Warren has dismissed claims that the heavyweight could be carrying an injury ahead of his fight with Anthony Joshua in Cardiff on December 11.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, November 5, around the Joshua Buatsi–Willy Hutchinson fight week, Warren rejected speculation raised by former WBC heavyweight champion Frank Bruno.

“Nonsense. Absolute nonsense,” Warren told reporters.

“He’s doing well. I haven’t spoken to him for a week. I’ll leave him alone, leave him in peace, but the last time I spoke to him he just said I wish the fight was tomorrow.

“He’s so up for it, he’s so focused and he wants it so badly.”

Bruno had raised concerns on the Fight Your Corner podcast after hearing talk of a possible injury during Fury’s training camp.

“I looked at him the other day and I think someone was talking to me in the gym that he’s got some injury,” Bruno said. “Which may stop him from going into the fight with Anthony Joshua. And having that in your head isn’t nice.”

Bruno did not identify the nature of the alleged injury or provide further details. Fury’s representatives separately denied the claim to Sky Sports News, with the fight remaining scheduled to go ahead at the Principality Stadium.

Fury is preparing in Miami under trainer SugarHill Steward, with heavyweight contenders Joe Joyce and Jarrell Miller among his sparring partners.

Tony Bellew, who was hosting the podcast, suggested Fury’s behaviour could be part of the pre-fight tactics he has often employed during his career.

“He plays up to the camera, Frank,” Bellew said. “I think he wants to, you know, he’s going to be saying certain things. I do think Tyson Fury is the master of the mind games. Yeah, he’s very, very good at it. Very, very good at the mind games.”

Questions about Fury’s fitness carry added weight given the history of the match-up. Fury and Joshua have been linked to a fight for years, with previous attempts to bring the two British heavyweights together falling through.

They are now scheduled to contest the vacant WBA (Super) heavyweight title in Cardiff, with the main event expected to begin at around 1am on December 12. The Principality Stadium will remain open until 3.30am to accommodate the late finish.

The unusual schedule follows efforts to stage the long-awaited contest in Britain rather than overseas.

Fury, 38, has also indicated that the Joshua fight will not be his final appearance. Speaking to WSVN Miami from his training camp last week, he said he intends to complete the remaining two bouts on his contract and could then extend his career further.

“I’m going to continue,” Fury said. “I’ve got two fights left on my contract. I’ll finish the contract off and then probably sign another 10-fight deal. Who knows?”

“If the money’s right sign another 10 fights, but they’ve got to be quick because I’m getting older. And when it’s gone it’s gone. I’m coming up to fight No 40.”
