With the 9th anniversary of the 2015 super fight between boxing legends Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao on the horizon, could we finally be about to see the rematch?

Speaking on The Pivot Podcast this week, Mayweather refused to rule out a 2024 exhibition against Pacquiao. He also revealed that a recent call-out by Pacquiao had earned him a cool $4 million.

Former 8-weight world champion Pacquiao, 45, initially raised expectations that a match-up against Mayweather could be on the cards during Rizin 45 this past New Year’s Eve.

Flanked by RIZIN chief executive Nobuyiki Sakakibara, Pacquiao stated, “Next year, I hope to see you here in Japan with a big fight against…“,

Floyd Mayweather!” Sakakibara declared.

I thought that you didn’t want me to say that!” joked Pacquiao.

Mayweather, himself, is no stranger to Rizin, having competed in two exhibition bouts in Japan for the promotion.

In 2018, he squared off against kickboxing legend Tenshin Nasukawa. He then challenged Japanese MMA star Mikuru Asakura in 2022.

Mayweather himself has remained silent on the call-out, until asked about it in a recent episode of The Pivot Podcast.

When Manny Pacquiao spoke about that, he shouldn’t have. There’s a time and place for everything. I’m not gonna say he’s right, and I’m not gonna say he’s wrong.

Mayweather seems to have left the door open for an announcement later in the year. He also implied that just by Pacquiao mentioning his name, he was cut a cheque for $4 million.

He refused to elaborate on who paid it and why exactly that was the case. However, there was a hint that he may have announced it at the wrong time.

“He said my name when he didn’t suppose to [sic], remember I said, there’s a time and place for any and everything.’ Mayweather told podcast hosts and NFL stars Ryan Clark, Fred Taylor and Channing Crowder.

Mayweather, as always, couldn’t refuse a parting jab at his long-term rival. He repeated his long-held belief that Pacquiao’s rise to fame had only come as the boxer everyone was saying could finally be the man to dethrone him.

‘Did it happen? Absolutely not! Was he easy? Absolutely!’ Boasted Mayweather.

‘It wasn’t easy?’ Channing Crowder chuckled.

‘So, 10 rounds to two isn’t easy?’ Mayweather fired back, referring to his large margin of victory in their 2015 super fight.
