Tyson Fury plans Donald Trump ringwalk invitation for Anthony Joshua fight
Tyson Fury plans to invite US President Donald Trump to accompany him on his ringwalk for the December 11 fight with Anthony Joshua at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.
Fury said he would approach Trump about attending the all-British heavyweight contest, although he acknowledged the president’s schedule may make the proposal difficult.
“I’ll definitely make that offer to my old buddy, old pal, and we’ll see if he’s available,” Fury said. “Probably unlikely because of the situation he’s in at the moment, being the President of the United States.”
The former heavyweight champions faced off for the first time at this week’s press conference, bringing together two rivals whose paths have repeatedly failed to cross despite years of negotiations. Their meeting is scheduled for the 80,000-capacity Principality Stadium.
Fury’s proposed invitation follows his return to the United States and his contact with Trump and UFC chief Dana White. He attended UFC Freedom 250 at the White House in June and spent time with both men. Fury has since based himself in Miami while preparing to face Joshua.
His White House visit came after he had previously encountered difficulties entering the US. In 2022, Fury was refused permission to board a US-bound flight amid reports that the restriction was linked to his former association with Daniel Kinahan, who had been sanctioned by the US government.
White also became involved in the negotiations for Fury-Joshua. After the fight was announced, Fury said his original contract contained a clause barring White and TKO/Zuffa from taking part, with a corresponding restriction in Joshua’s agreement. Fury said he had the clause removed because he wanted White involved.
Fury wants third Usyk fight
Fury has already identified a third meeting with Oleksandr Usyk as his target beyond Joshua. Usyk defeated him twice, but Fury has described the Cardiff fight as preparation for another attempt to reverse those losses.
“I don’t have any intention of retiring after Joshua. I’m using this bum as a warm-up for Usyk,” Fury said. “This is a bum to me and I can guarantee that on the night when I knock him spark out he won’t know what time it is. And then I want the rabbit [Usyk] in New York City.”
Fury also believes his activity during 2026 will benefit him against Joshua, who will be his third opponent of the year. He pointed to his rounds against the similarly tall Arslanbek Makhmudov and Mariusz Wach as useful preparation.
“This year will be the most active year for me since 2018. This’ll be my third fight, I’m literally match fit,” Fury said. “I’ve done 12 rounds with a 6ft 8in Arslanbek Makhmudov and I’ve done seven rounds with another 6ft 7in behemoth in Mariusz Wach. And then I’m going to do whatever rounds with AJ, who’s another 6ft 6in guy.”
Any third fight with Usyk will have to wait until after December 11. Fury must first deal with Joshua and find out whether Trump is available for the walk to the ring in Cardiff.
