It's no doubt that the sport of boxing is covered on a wide scale across many channels. However, no channel covers the sweet science like the Sky Sports Network. This channel has been home to some marquee matchups this year, such as the Anthony Joshua vs Joseph Parker back on March 31st or the thrilling first-round knockout of Phil Lo Greco by a returning Amir Kahn.
Amir Khan signed a three-fight deal with Eddie Hearn and the Sky family at the beginning of the year. Additionally, Anthony Joshua just inked a massive 3-year deal worth 100 million euros to extend his relationship with the network. Sky has just signed a deal with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing to broadcast sixteen live fight nights a year from the United States. Now, fans of Sky will get to witness fights from the United Kingdom and the United States
The history of boxing on this channel goes back to 1996 when boxing matches were shown on the platform formerly known as Sky Box Office. Sky Box Office was launched in 1996 as a PPV channel that covered primarily sports events. Those events included boxing matches. The first match ever televised on Sky Box Office was a WBC heavyweight title match between Frank Bruno and Iron Mike Tyson. The channel covered Tyson's rematch against Evander Holyfield as well as his fights against Julius Francis and Lennox Lewis. Sky Box Office covered the great superfight between Floyd "Money" Mayweather and Ricky Hatton on December 8th 2007. This fight was the third most watched fight in the history of the Sky platform.
Even though Sky Box Office was re-branded as Sky Sports Box Office on February 2011, it did not stop the big megafights from making its way onto the channel. The channel covered the highly viewed July 2011 showdown between Wladimir Klitschko and David Haye as well as the megamatch between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
Sky also covered the classic confrontation between Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko on April 29th 2017. In addition to being one of the greatest fights in the history of championship boxing, this fight was the most watched boxing match in Sky history.
In July 2017, Sky repackaged its sports lineup. Now, Boxing telecasts can now be seen on the Sky Sports Arena channel.
