How Box.Live Power Rankings Work
Box.Live’s Power Rankings are designed to give fans a clear and consistent snapshot of where active fighters stand in each division right now. They create a structured position system across the entire weight class, including champions, which are often excluded from traditional ranking lists.
Each division is ranked from top to bottom based on a mix of recognised standings, current titles, and official governing body positions. The number of fighters listed is not fixed and simply reflects how many active, ranked fighters currently make up the division.
What the rankings are based on
At the top of each division, the order reflects the established hierarchy at world level. This includes recognised champions and the leading contenders. Beyond that, the rankings are shaped by how fighters are positioned in the title picture across the four major governing bodies, rather than by subjective assessments of ability and achievement.
To keep the rankings focused and relevant:
- Only active fighters are included
- Every fighter listed is either a current champion or ranked by at least one major organisation at that weight
- Fighters who become inactive may temporarily drop out until they return to action
This ensures the rankings reflect the real competitive landscape of the division at any given time.
How the order is determined
The rankings follow a consistent structure:
- The Ring champion, if one is recognised
- The Ring Magazine’s #1 to #10 contenders
- Other current world champions in the division
- Remaining fighters ordered by their combined positions across the WBC, IBF, WBO and WBA rankings
This approach builds a clear ladder that reflects both recognised divisional standings and each fighter’s position within the sanctioning body systems.
